Vina MacLeod likes the life she leads: a great job in the whisky industry; her friendship with her childhood friend Emma (who had to marry Vina's brother of all people); the occasional flirt with a rebounder - because the last thing Vina wants is a proper relationship.
Until she sleeps with a widow: angry about the loss of her wife and stubbornly intending to grieve till the day she dies, Ilisa has a sharp and dry pen, has exquisite taste in whisky and strong points of view. It's an irresistible blend for Vina, who is gradually changing until she finally realises she is in love with Ilisa. But Ilisa has no desire to let anybody in her heart again.
